Social Media At-A-Glance

Introductory Social Media

Social media platforms Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn will be introduced. Participants will learn the basics of these three platforms including the terminology associated with each and primary features.

Social media refers to the means of interactions among people in which they create, share, and exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks. Also known as Web 2.0, they facilitate the creation and exchange of user-generated content.

What is Twitter?

Twitter is an online social networking service and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters, known as "tweets". Unlike Facebook where users have to approve freind requests, public Twitter accounts can be 'followed' by anyone.

What is LinkedIn?

LinkedIn is a business-oriented social networking site which is mainly used for professional networking. Registered users document their employment history and education, and network with people they know and trust professionally.

What is Facebook?

Facebook is a popular, free online social networking website that allows registered users to create profiles, upload photos and video, send messages and keep in touch with family, friends, and colleagues.
